Irving I. Herzberg photograph collection 1950-1988.

The collection consists of negatives, slides and prints from Herzberg's photographic essays on Brooklyn's Hasidic community, Israel, and scenes of general New York City life, Manhattan and Brooklyn in particular. There are also some cassette tapes that may have provided background music for slide shows of the images. The photographs are all black & white, with the exception of the Purim slides in the Hasidic community project.

Irving I. Herzberg was best known for his human interest photographic essays. His photographs are in the permanent collections of the Jewish Museum and the Brooklyn Public Library. He founded the Trump Village Camera Club in Coney Island. Herzberg's most famous project was of the Hasidic community in Williamsburg. The photographs from this project were used to illustrate The Face of Faith: an American Hassidic Community by George Kranzler, published by the Baltimore Hebrew College in 1972. The p...
